Small Blacks/Rippa Blacks
There are three Small Blacks grade levels:
- Beginning Rugby (Under 6 and Under 7) (Rippa)
- Learning Rugby (Under 8, 9, and 10)
- Playing Rugby (Under 11, 12, and 13)
It is compulsory for all Small Blacks coaches to have an NZR Small Blacks accreditation applicable to the grade level they will be coaching. These courses are facilitated by PBFRU. Coaches of Primary School Rippa teams should also attend Rippa Blacks course.
Tackle Clinic
The ‘Tackle Clinic’ has been established to teach rugby players to position their heads in the correct position when making a safe and correct tackle.
With these skills and techniques, players will be able to tackle more effectively, safely, and enjoy their rugby even more.
We run these sessions for coaches and players, and schedule them prior to the Small Black Courses at the same venue. Emphasis is on players moving from Rippa to tackle rugby (U7 –U8) but we welcome all players & coaches from U8 – U13.
Foundation Coaching Course
This World Rugby Level 1 Coaching course provides coaches with the basic skills for coaching rugby and helping players to play the game with satisfaction, skill and enjoyment. It explains and demonstrates the skills of the game, and requires course applicants to apply these skills, so they in turn can coach players to employ them safely and successfully. Practical information on planning and management supports this on-field knowledge. This course will give participants the knowledge and skills they need to coach players in the game of rugby. It is predominantly aimed at coaches who are currently coaching Junior and Secondary School rugby, plus coaches who are new to coaching rugby.
